What was it that had me twisting and turning away from wine? I think jumping into wine without giving myself time to reflect on the Peace Corps was a recipe for dissatisfaction. It's hard to summarize my experiences in Ethiopia let alone come away with a distilled version of how it changed me as a person. The one thing I do know is that working in the financial arena no longer holds a sway over me.
With that, I have decided to open up my options for the future. I'm taking the GRE and applying for university programs in the international development arena. I'm applying for a rigorous teaching English certification program in Chennai, India. The general categories I'm vetting as new career options are within educational improvement, higher education (Professor Losey?), and/or international development.
As programs for post-graduate work generally start in the fall, I will have to wait a whole year to get started on these changes. Why not travel in the meantime? I already have a one-way ticket to India. The only thing that I currently have set in stone is the rickshaw run across India in January 2012. http://www.theadventurists.com/the-adventures/rickshaw-run. Some other thoughts: volunteering on a farm in the himalayas, teaching English in a small village, volunteering somewhere, staying in a beach town counting grains of sand, and hitchhiking on sailboats to the end of the world. The general progression though is to allow my environment to determine where I go, what I do and what I experience.
This is a short update, but it was a long time coming.
Yours in friendship,
Jon Losey
We are so happy for you and, frankly, a bit jealous that you have the freedom to go on new adventures! You will be wonderful in anything that you do because, well, you are you after all! Good luck in your endeavors, brother <3
